I have a collection of many older WT books. What I am doing with them? Nothing except I find them great study and comparison materials. I see so many things in those books that are considered very outdated, many "predictions" that didn't come to pass and some show glaring inconsistencies.
I notice that the older books relied heavily on Catholic Encyclopedia, different Bible translations (Douay, Jerusalem, New American, New English, etc.). However when I looked at the latest WT books, I don't see any Douay translation or others for that matter.
For example: Truth that Leads to Everlasting Life (1968) used Douay a lot but when the newer books, You Can Live Forever on Paradise Earth (1982 & 1989) and Knowledge That Leads To Everlasting LIfe (1996), Douay and other translations are not used. What happened? Did the Watchtower realize something was wrong with these translations and had to omit them? I also noticed that nowadays WT solely uses its own translation New World Translation to quote verses. Has the WT ceased using that particular translation for good? If so, why?
When I showed the older books to the young Jehovah's Witnesses who were at my house for Bible Study, I was told they don't use these books anymore because the light got brighter. At that moment, they had to leave, so I never had the chance to find out what they meant by that.
What is going on? Can anyone please give me the answers? I would love to hear from you.
Batty
