About Jehovah's Witnesses

Jehovah's Witnesses

The religious movement now known as Jehovah's Witnesses was started by Charles Taze Russell in the 1870's and today has grown to over 6,000,000 members worldwide with about 1,000,000 members in the United States. Jehovah's Witnesses are best known for their door to door distribution of the Watchtower magazine which is printed by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society headquartered in Brooklyn, New York. Jehovah's Witnesses have their own translation of the Bible, the New World Translation and many of their beliefs and teachings differ from biblical Christianity. For more details see the articles listed below.

The Heavenly Kingdom took effect in 1914 with the invisible enthronement of Christ as King. A little flock or Anointed Class of about 135,300 people currently occupies it. All were selected after Christ's ascension into heaven at Pentecost (33 AD) and during subsequent centuries. The selection of the full complement of 144,000 was completed in 1935. Some 8,700 are still living on earth. They will spend eternity as spirit creatures in heaven with God and Christ and will rule over the other Jehovah’s Witnesses who remain on earth. Those spending eternity on earth are what Jehovah’s Witnesses call the Great Crowd or Other Sheep. Read more in: Beliefs

1992 "Today, a small percentage of mankind can still recall the dramatic events of 1914. Will that elderly generation pass away before God saves the earth from ruin? Not according to Bible prophecy. 'When you see all these things,' Jesus PROMISED, 'know that he is near at the doors. Truly I say to you that THIS generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' - Matthew 24:33, 34." If you are currently studying with Jehovah's Witnesses we strongly urge you to do as much research as possible before making any commitments. Once you commit you will not be allowed to read anything written by former Jehovah's Witnesses and you will be discouraged form reading anything written about the Bible unless it is written by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. If you become a Jehovah's Witness you will forfeit the freedom to choose your own religious reading material.
